Avaaj Otalo Helps Farmer Conserve Seeds and Water

Okhiben is a regular Avaaj Otalo user living in Nanol village, Tharsad taluka (block), Banaskantha district. She grows grows cumin (jeeru), mustard (raido), and castor (divela) on her 9-acre farm. We recently interviewed her about her experience using Avaaj Otalo. She reported that AO helped her improve her cumin planting and water application technique. She got advice on timing the soaking of the seeds to planting time and watering less during moist time periods to avoid drying. This not only saved her in seeds and water costs, but saved water itself. A small behavior change, but significant step in being a more eco-friendly farmer.

Okhiben also suggested that AO answers come within a day of asking and to include more animal husbandry-related questions (most of the animal husbandry work is done by women family members). Thank you Okhiben for your time and valuable feedback! We will heed your suggestions.
